Numsa to meet Wits Management over wage agreement

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Labour union Numsa will meet Wits University management Monday afternoon to discuss the latest wage offer.

The university staff affiliated to Numsa went on strike last Tuesday.

They are demanding among others a 12% salary increase across the board.

Wits management has put a new offer on the table.

It includes a 7.8% salary increase for the higher earning workers and a 9% increase for the lowest paid workers.

Numsa’s Phakamile Hlubi says, “Whilst these are positive developments, our members have vowed not to return to work until the agreement is signed by all parties to make it legally binding.  Our members will continue to picket peacefully on campus until the agreement has been formalised. Only once that is done the strike will be called off.”
