Reading Time: < 1 minute

Basic Education Director General Hubert Mweli says the number of schools across the country that achieved a 0% matric pass rate in 2017 has halved from 18 schools to 9.

Mweli was giving the technical briefing in Johannesburg ahead of the official announcement of the performance of the class of 2017 by Minister Angie Motshekga on Thursday evening.

Mweli says there was, however, a drop in the number of schools that achieved a 100% pass rate.
