The South African Football Association (SAFA) says it’s concerned about the number of players who have died on the country’s roads. The football body was responding to reports that yet another footballer, Motjeka Madisha, died last night in a collision in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni.

Late last month, Anele Ngcongca lost his life in a road crash in KwaZulu Natal.

SAFA President, Danny Jordaan says, “It comes so shortly on the loss of Anele. He was buried on Thursday and on Saturday, two days later, the loss of another key player in the Bafana team. The loss of leading players through car accidents over many years have become a burden on the nation. We just pray that in this period of festive season we don’t see any further losses of lives through car accidents by leading players in our country.

Details of the accident have not yet been confirmed. However, reports say the car Madisha was travelling in along with another occupant, burst into flames on Zuurfontein road.

It is believed the driver of the car lost control and crashed onto a metal pole.

One of the occupants burned inside the car while a male occupant was found outside of the car. Both were declared dead on the scene.

This comes in the wake of the death of another Sundowns defender, Anele Ngcongca, who also died in a car accident in November and was laid to rest on Thursday.

Sundowns and Bafana defender Motjeka Madisha passes away:

Madisha joined the Brazilians in 2015 from Highlands Park. With the club and under the guidance of former coach Pitso Mosimane, Madisha won three ABSA Premiership titles between 2017 and 2020.

He represented the national team, Bafana Bafana, 13 times and scored one goal.

Condolences have poured in for the defender.
