The number of coronavirus cases in the country has increased to 12 739, with 238 deaths. The number of recoveries sits at 5 676.
The Western Cape currently has the most cases with 7 235 confirmed infections, followed by Gauteng with 2 135 and the Eastern Cape with 1 569. The Western Cape has close to 57% of all the confirmed cases in the country.

In a series of tweets on Thursday, Health Minister Dr. Zweli Mkhize says South Africa has managed to flatten the curve, however, it is an ongoing process.

Mkhize also raised concerns about the low level of Person Protection Equipment (PPEs) that is being manufactured in the country.

Preparations for COVID-19 surge:
Meanwhile, Gauteng has added an additional 1600 beds to various hospitals in preparations for a surge in COVID-19 cases between June and September this year.
Premier David Makhura updated citizens on Thursday on the province’s fight against the coronavirus.
“We are increasing the number of beds at Chris Hani Baragwanath, in the George Mukari cluster, in Jubilee. We also go into these area’s to do flu vaccines, 253 000 immunisations have been carried out. The most terrible mistake we can make is neglect other ailments,” says Makhura.
