Workers at the Gupta linked mine were not paid their salaries this month.

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) together with Optimum Mine will meet with a business rescue expert on Tuesday to try to find possible solutions.

Striking workers of the Optimum Coal Mine near Middelburg, Mpumalanga, have been dispersed by the police after their protest action started to turn violent.

It is alleged that some of the workers burnt tyres on the road leading to the mine.

Workers at the Gupta linked mine were not paid their salaries this month.

NUM Chairperson at Optimum, Richard Mguzulu says, “The management is seemed to have passed the burden to the business practitioner because they have just told us that legally they are not in control of the company. So everything that we need to discuss we will discuss it with the practitioner, who is legally appointed to make sure that they rescue the company from the situation that it is in,” says Mguzulu.
