NSRI warns of rough sea conditions in False Bay

The National Sea Rescue Institute(NSRI)has appealed to beachgoers to be vigilant of rough sea conditions along the False Bay coastline in Cape Town.

This comes after a 54-year-old kayaker from Durbanville sustained minor injuries after being swept out to sea in rough water conditions near Gordon’s Bay.

NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, says the man was able to paddle to safety at Macassar Beach .

“We are urging any paddler launching any kind of craft onto the water to always wear a life jacket, to download the NSRI Safetrx to their phone. It gives the ability to call an emergency, and give us your exact position on the water. Also, carry safety equipment like a cellphone in a water-tight sleeve, distress flares, referees whistle but also to paddle in groups,” said Lambinon.
