The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the North West says it intends to oppose bail for five suspects facing charges relating to the brutal murder of two police officials.

Benjamin Jacobs and his four co-accused made a brief appearance at the Itsoseng Magistrate’s Court. NPA spokesperson Henry Mamothame says this is due to the seriousness of the case and how the offence was executed.

Benjamin Jacobs, Jeremiah Mongale, Rapula Keikantse, Matthew Modukane and a 16-year-old minor, were arrested following the death of Sergeant Mojalefa Molete and Constable Simon Ntsekeletsa.

Their bodies were found near the Mosita section near Ganyesa, a day after they had gone missing.

This matter has been referred to the regional court of Itsoseng and is expected to sit on the last day of August 2021.

The charred remains of Molete and Ntseletsa were found with their state police vehicle that was also burnt.
