Fast bowler Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the Cricket World Cup due to a fractured thumb and will be replaced by all-rounder Chris Morris.

Nortje fractured his thumb in Port Elizabeth on Monday.

The 24-year-old Nortje has played just four one-day- internationals for South Africa and was expected to make an impact at the World Cup which starts in England and Wales later this month.

He was also forced to withdraw from the Indian Premier League because of an injured shoulder.

Two other fast bowlers in South Africa’s World Cup squad, who returned from the Indian Premier League prematurely because of injuries, Kagiso Rabada and Dale Steyn, have not been cleared yet and remain works in progress.

The good news is that J.P Duminy, Lungi Ngidi and Tabraiz Shamsi have all fully recovered from their injuries.
