Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Northern Cape Water and Sanitation department says two big municipalities in the province have averted water disruptions.

NamaKhoi Municipality in Namaqualand owes over R90-million. Dikgatlong Municipality in Barkly West owes approximately R60-million.

Both have made arrangements to pay off the debt.

Six Northern Cape municipalities are among 30 nationwide that owe the department of Water and Sanitation R10.7-billion.

“Then there’s Gamagara. I’m not aware that they made any payment, there’s two other municipalities with debt around R2 million which we don’t regard as a major issue. Depending on the agreements that will be reached, we will have to see what further action is need to be implemented,” says Provincial Water and Sanitation Chief Director Abe Abrahams.
