Northern Cape police have arrested a 20-year-old man for the alleged rape of a five-year-old girl at Mataleng village near Barkly West.

Reports state that the suspect has been raping the little girl since February until late March this year.

Police say the parents of the five-year-old work outside Barkly West and she was in the care of her grandmother when the incidents happened.

“The incident was reportedly committed at Mataleng in Barkley West between February and March. The suspect will be appearing before the local magistrate’s court soon and the members of the Family Violence and Child Protection Sexual Offenses unit will be opposing bail,” says Mohale Ramatsheba, Police Spokesperson.

Meanwhile, on Monday, two uncles and a step-father of a seven-year-old girl appeared in the Kimberley Magistrates’ Court for her alleged rape.
