The African National Congress (ANC) Youth League in the Northern Cape has called on law enforcement agencies to jail ANC leaders who are implicated in corruption.

The league made this call during the memorial service of ANC Member of Parliament Mxolisi Sokatsha. He died in a car crash last Friday.

While some hailed the late MP as a selfless leader who fought for human dignity, others called for the prosecution of party leaders who are involved in wrongdoing.

“All those corrupt leaders must be removed and must be jailed because the ANC cannot stand corrupt leaders,” says Kagisho Mokwena, ANC Youth League provincial convener.

Alliance partner, the South African Communist Party (SACP) agrees with the call by the provincial ANC Youth League that corrupt leaders should be jailed and that the party needs renewal.

SACP Provincial Secretary Norman Shushu says, “The renewal of the ANC must be underpinned by developing the cadre ship of our movement like the cadre ship Sokatsha had.”

“We remember as a person who ran clean departments in the province,” says Orapeleng Moraladi, Cosatu provincial secretary.
