The North West Tourism board has launched a one of a kind initiative called the North West Film Festival in Taung in the North West. The aim of the project is to promote domestic tourism and profile the province through film by showcasing its attractions not only to tourists but also the local and international film making industry.
A new innovative way of displaying the beauty of the tourist destination through movies so that even international film makers can be able to film.
The tourist destination, Dinkgwaneng is situated in Modimong meaning “A place where God is”. The site has a mysterious foot print which locals believe is the footprint of God. The landscapes are the driving force that will make this a preferred venue for those in the film industry
Advocate Mothusi Tsineng, CEO of Tourism Board says, “Our package will not discriminate against whether you are domestic filmmaker or an international filmmaker. So anybody who has an interest will be accommodated because for us is more than economic development.”
Buxton is another area identified as one of the unique tourist destinations that would attract film makers. You will find the international heritage site Taung Skull and a place called Small heaven, where water comes from the rocks.
“There are areas where you will be amazed if you are in Taung, there are very beautiful landscapes at Taung dam, also if you go to Dinkgwaneng and take a better shot, an aerial shot, we have done that, they are very beautiful. Anybody can see those things, filmmakers would want to come and do their movies here.”
The Tourism Board says they are in the process of establishing a film school, that would assist in upskilling locals so they can benefit from these tourism attractions.
