North West premier Job Mokgoro, has finally resigned. He made the announcement in a virtual media briefing on Thursday morning.

67 year-old Bushy Maape will replace Mokgoro. The African National Congress Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) had been calling for Mokgoro’s removal, after accusing him of not taking instructions from the party.

When announcing his resignation, Mokgoro said he will formally hand over his resignation letter to the speaker of the North West legislature.

He has thanked the province’s citizens for giving him an opportunity to lead. Mokgoro also mentioned that during his tenure, he tried by all means to uproot corruption in the province.

Maape will be sworn in after Mokgoro has formally submitted his resignation letter.

ANC IPC apologises to Mokgoro for how communication was handled around his removal as North West premier

Last week, the ANC IPC in the North West apologised to Mokgoro for what they call the discomfort and inconvenience that may have been caused to him about the communication on the decision to remove him as premier.

Mokgoro has raised concerns about his removal being communicated to him through the media and telephonically.

He mentioned his dissatisfaction during a meeting with ANC Deputy Secretary-General Jessie Duarte.
