North West government assembles team to assist families of 19 people who died in accident

The North West provincial government has assembled a team that will assist the families of 19 people who died in a motor vehicle accident over the weekend.

This announcement was made by Premier Bushy Maape today following his visit to the families yesterday.

The deceased were travelling along the R34 from Bloemhof to Schweizer Reneke after attending a wedding anniversary of a relative.

The minibus taxi they were travelling in collided with a truck. Seventeen of the deceased are from one family while the driver of the taxi and his friend also passed away.

Three people survived the crash and are being treated for injuries at a local hospital.
