The new Agri Fund that has been launched by the North-West government has been welcomed by several farmers in the province.
The fund is aimed at assisting financially struggling farmers in the province as part of the transformation government programme.
One of the small farmers Sechaba Lekabe, from the Ditsobotla district near Lichtenburg says the initiative will largely assist farmers who have been neglected.
“We have a challenge in terms of funding. When you approach typical commercial banks one cannot secure funding based on the fact that, one does not have fixed assets.”
“This is a relief, if you take Agri fund and clubbed it with one hector, one household projects, where subsistence are encouraged to put their land together and register a co-operatives, which will of course, come with mentoring. The Agri fund is a winning combination,” says Lekabe.
