The High court in Pretoria has ruled that the State has failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The son of a North West farmer on trial for murdering a youth he accused of stealing oranges on his parents’ farm at Mooinooi near Brits, has been acquitted of all charges.

The charges included murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and two charges of attempted murder.

Twenty five year old Matthew Benson allegedly fired shots at Tebogo Ndlovu and his two friends after spotting them on the farm in August last year.

The High court in Pretoria has ruled that the State has failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Benson says he’s happy now that he’s a free man.

“I am a free man. I’m very grateful. And I’m an innocent man and I’m free because they now know the truth.”
