North West ANC pledges support for new party leadership

The Provincial Executive Committee of the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West has resolved to formally pledge their support to the recently newly elected party leadership led by president Cyril Ramaphosa.

The North West province was rallying behind Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma heading to the party’s 54th national elective conference in December last year.

The formal resolution by the party’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) was taken during its special meeting held recently. In the meeting the leadership also disputed rumours that it will mobilise its members not to attend the party’s 106th anniversary celebration to be held over this weekend in East London.

“The PEC and the entire ANC in the province pledges unconditional support to the newly elected ANC leadership collective led by president Cyril Ramaphosa. The province will send no less than 3000 members to the ANC 106th anniversary celebration in East London,” says ANC Provincial Spokesperson Gerald Modise.

The provincial leadership has also resolved to convene the Provincial General Council by March to fill up a vacancy of the provincial secretary, left by Dakota Legoete who is now elected as the National Executive Committee member. The current Deputy Provincial Secretary, and North West Legislature Speaker, has been appointed as Acting Provincial Secretary.

“The PGC will fill the provincial secretary vacancy left open by the election of our provincial secretary, comrade Dakota Legoete, onto the new National Executive Committee and will be held before the end of March and currently the acting provincial secretary is the current deputy provincial secretary comrade Suzan Dantjie.”

On the Bojanala regional conference matter which was nullified by the North West High Court, on the eve of the national conference last year, Modise had this to say, “The Bojanala regional conference will be held during the first week of March 2018 to comply with the 2017 December court order. All the 38 Bojanala branches affected by the court order will re-run as the court directed and no lapse in administration and indiscipline will be tolerated. The appeal on the same court will however be continued.”

Meanwhile political analyst from the North West University, Professor Andre Duvenhage, has questioned the loyalty of the ANC leadership in the province, especially on their pronouncement in support of the newly elected national leadership.

“This is becoming a trend in North West politics, it is quite interesting the position of North West before the Polokwane conference they were loyal to Thabo Mbeki and after that conference they made a complete change towards Jacob Zuma. It is part of the bigger tendency and we need to ask serious questions about the constituency and the loyalty of North West ANC with regards to leadership and structures.”

The provincial leadership of the ANC has also resolved to hold both the regional conferences of Dr Kenneth Kaunda and Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati at the end of this month.
