Sharks hooker, Akker van der Merwe was also red carded for the brawl.

A Sanzaar Judicial Committee has upheld Springbok and Bulls hooker Schalk Brits’ red card for his role in Saturday’s brawl with his direct opponent of the Sharks, Akker van der Merwe and is banned for four matches.

In a statement released by the committee, it says it reduced the suspension by two weeks because of a guilty plea and the fact that Brits was not the instigator.

For his previous two periods of suspension for punching offences, the Judicial Committee was unable to give the full 50% discount for the sanction. This leads to a suspension of four weeks.

Brits will miss home matches against the Jaguares and the Reds, an away match against the Stormers and another match at home against the Waratahs on May the fourth.

Van der Merwe received a three-week ban on Monday.
