Liberty management says no customers appear to have suffered financial loss from the data breach after hackers attacked their computers and demanded cash.

Liberty says all customer data is still safe and that its policies and contracts remain in force.

The financial services company says it remains in full control of its IT systems.

Liberty says mainly emails and attachments were affected by the hack.

It says protection of customer details was prioritised and authorities alerted on Thursday when the hack was uncovered.

Earlier the company issued a statement confirming the news, and says it’s taken extra-ordinary steps to try and secure systems.

Consumers who have policies with Liberty were contacted on Saturday evening at 9pm, but have not been told to what extent their personal information has been compromised.

The data was seized from the group, allegedly due to weak security.

Tefo Mohapi, a digital expert, has pointed out on Twitter, that Liberty’s website appears not to have had SSL certificates.
