No consultation on drought decision: De Lille

Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille says due process was not being followed when stripping her of her powers to deal with water augmentation projects in the city.

The council voted for Deputy Mayor Ian Neilson to take charge of drought related issues during a special sitting on Friday.

De Lille says in a statement that she was never consulted on the matter.

She says amendments to the ” System of Delegations ” must follow due process. De Lille says the amendments are reviewable.

The council also withdrew the proposal to introduce a controversial water levy in the city.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane announced about two weeks ago that De Lille would be stripped of her powers relating to water matters but she continued in her role after getting legal advice.

Nielson says De Lille will continue to perform her other responsibilities.
