The City of Tshwane has confirmed that there’s no evidence of a cholera outbreak in the area at present.

A team of experts was dispatched on Thursday to conduct urgent tests in the greater Hammanskraal area following a suspected cholera outbreak.

Public sector healthcare facilities in the region have noted an increase in diarrhoeal disease, but no bacteria or viruses that cause the disease have been detected in the stool samples.

City of Tshwane Spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo says: “We can confirm that there are no traces of cholera in the area. Our lab officers went and conducted tests. We can add that we have sought an independent body and we are anticipating to get results from them next week.”

“We are hopeful that those results will confirm our stance regarding the non-existence of cholera in Hammanskraal and surrounding areas,” adds Mashigo.
