No body was found outside Madikizela-Mandela’s home: Cele

Police Minister Bheki Cele has disputed reports of a body being found after reported shooting outside anti-apartheid struggle icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela‘s home in Orlando West, Soweto on Friday night.

Some mourners chanting revolutionary songs are reported to have fired shots in the air outside Mama Winnie’s home.

Friday night saw excessive shooting, prompting Cele’s visit on Saturday.

Police are investigating whether their own members were also involved.

The ANC has condemned the incident and has urged mourners to respect Mama Winnie’s family.

Meanwhile, the ANC has confirmed that Stompie Seipei‘s mother will attend Madikizela-Mandela funeral next Saturday. ‘Seipei was a 14-year-old activist from Parys in the Free State.

He was kidnapped and killed by the former Mandela Football Club coach, Jerry Richardson in 1989. Richardson was sentenced for Sepei’s murder in 1990 and he subsequently died in prison in 2009.

ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule has told the SABC that Seipei’s mother will also visit Mama Winnie’s family during the week.
