The police have made another arrest in the Thabo Bester escape matter. This brings to nine, the number of people arrested in connection with the aiding and abetting of rapist and murderer, |Bester to escape from prison.
The suspect is a 31-year old Zimbabwean national.
“The suspect was arrested on Sunday morning in Johannesburg. At this stage, he faces a charge of assisting an inmate to escape from lawful custody. The suspect is likely to face more charges,” says national police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Tuesday,13 June 2023. The possibility of police effecting more arrests cannot be ruled out.

Dr Nandipha Magudumana’s arrest
Meanwhile, on Friday, another accused in the case, Dr. Nandipha Magudumana filed an application for leave to appeal Free State High Court decision which dismissed her application to nullify her arrest in Tanzania in April.
The high court had contended that Magudumana willingly participated in the handing over process.
The applicant seeks leave to appeal to the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA), against the judgment and order by the high court.
Magudumana submitted that there are three compelling reasons that warrant the grant for leave to appeal and that she had freely consented to her return to South Africa, despite the unlawfully disguised extradition.
