Nine more people test positive for coronavirus at the Lebombo Border Post

Nine people have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Lebombo border post with Mozambique. The border post Manager Obe Maditsi says the positive cases were mostly detected from South Africans travelling home after the holidays.

The number of people who have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Lebombo border post is now close to 20 after another nine tested positive yesterday.

According to the Lebombo Border Post Manager, Obe Maditsi, South African nationals who test positive are transported to Nutting House in Mbombela for quarantine while non-South Africans are turned back.

The number of coronavirus cases in the country is increasing.

The new variant is playing a significant role in the spread of the virus.

An explanation of what the new variant is:

Yesterday 11 859 new coronavirus cases were recorded in the country bringing the total number to 1 100 748. More people are also dying of COVID-19 complications.

South Africa recorded 402 deaths yesterday, most of which were in the Eastern Cape.
