The deceased mother and her nine-month-old son who were allegedly killed by her spouse at Ha-Davhana village in Vuwani, Limpopo, will be laid to rest on Saturday, after community members made various contributions, including financially.

The man is believed to have committed suicide after killing the woman and child.

The plight of the family came to the fore after the incident was broadcast by SABC News.

Their bodies were discovered on Monday this week.

Community Spokesperson Samson Muavha says the family has received donations such as coffins and tombstones.

“We want to thank [the] SABC for the role that they have played into this funeral. We have received a lot of donations, especially[from] the Chief,  Vhamusanda Vho- Thavhadziawa. The funeral will take place on Saturday morning. To the general public, we thank you. You have assisted us a lot. Some of you called us to give us prayer and others contribute financially,” explains Muavha.

Earlier this month, Limpopo Social Development MEC, Nkakareng Rakgoale, said the court should not grant bail to a 28-year-old suspect who allegedly raped and strangled to death a six-year-old girl at Praktiseer township outside Burgersfort.

Boikgathatso Komape was allegedly lured into the suspect’s house where she was allegedly raped before being strangled on Friday.

The victim’s body was apparently found under a tree and covered with a T-shirt.

The matter was then reported to the police and the suspect was arrested.
