Nine entrants from Italy withdraw from Cape Town Cycle Tour

Tour director David Bellairs says protocols are in place to test for symptoms of the coronavirus.

Cape Town Cycle Tour director David Bellairs says race organisers have tried to be as prepared as possible in light of the coronavirus outbreak. Bellairs says nine entrants from Italy have withdrawn from the race.

The Mother City is gearing up for the world’s largest individually timed cycle race on Sunday with over 30 000 cyclists from about 70 countries participating in the Cape Town Cycle Tour.

In the video below, nine entrants have withdrawn from the Cape Town Cycle Tour 

Bellairs says protocols are in place to test for symptoms of the coronavirus.

“We are working very closely with our medical partner Medi Clinic who are working here in conjunction with the provincial Department of Health the National Department of Health and the National Insitute for Communicable Diseases. We have a protocol that’s in place for here at the expo and on the day for dealing with people that may present with symptoms that may consider them to be linked with coronavirus, there are special isolation facilities.”
