Night vigil to be held after fatal Melville shooting

A night vigil will be held at 7 o’clock on Thursday night at a restaurant in Melville, Johannesburg, where a deadly shooting occurred on New Year’s Eve.

Two people were killed and six others wounded, two of them critically.

Flowers are being laid outside the scene of the killing. Many patrons in shock over the tragic incident.

Police are still investigating what led to the deadly shooting. There’s much speculation whether this was a hit.

Earlier Gauteng Police Commissioner Elias Mawela refuted allegations that police did not respond swiftly to the incident.

He said law enforcement was out in full force on New Year’s Eve and it was an extremely busy night.

Mawela says investigations are continuing and police are following up on a number of leads regarding the incident.
