Nigeria’s army chief Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru has died in a plane crash on Friday, three military sources told Reuters.
The air force said in a statement that its plane crashed near Kaduna airport on Friday and it is investigating the immediate cause of the crash.
February crash
In February this year, a Nigerian air force plane crashed while approaching the Abuja airport runway due to engine failure.
The Beechcraft KingAir B350i aircraft crashed while returning to the Abuja airport after reporting engine failure en route to Minna, killing all seven personnel on board.
In scrubland just outside the airport perimeter, dozens of military and airport officials picked through the charred remnants of the airplane.
