Nigeria frees 455 hostages from Boko Haram

The Nigerian army has rescued 455 civilians held hostage by the Boko Haram terror group northeast of the country.

The hostages were freed after clearance operations in Bok, Misherde, Mika and Kutila in Kala Balge local government area of Borno State.

Army spokesperson Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman says the rescued persons have been screened thoroughly and moved to the Rann internally displaced persons camp.

Meanwhile, troops carried out a major offensive against suspected hideouts of Boko Haram terrorists in the area.
