The National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) has released the latest coronavirus statistics that show close to 9000 new cases in the latest reporting period and 127 COVID-19 deaths.
The latest high numbers seem to confirm that South Africa is entering the third wave of the pandemic.

The NICD says 8 881 new cases were reported in the latest period taking the overall number of cases to more than 1 712 000.
The total number of deaths stands at 57 310.
