Operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla Lux has been released on bail by the Roodepoort Magistrates Court.  Lux is facing charges of housebreaking, theft and malicious damage to property.

On Wednesday last week, an elderly man laid charges of breaking and entering, intimidation as well as assault against Lux at the Dobsonville police station, in Soweto.

The man said he was assaulted by Dudula members after they broke into his home over the weekend, accusing him of being a drug dealer.

After spending four nights behind bars, Nhlanlha Lux has been granted bail of  R1 500 by the Roodepoort Magistrates Court.

As part of his bail conditions, Lux will have to hand over his passport to the investing officer and he won’t be allowed to leave the province until the conclusion of his trial.

Outside court his members of Operation Dudula, cheered and sang upon hearing that their leader will be released on Monday.

Earlier, the group sang struggle songs whilst holding up placards calling for Lux’s release.

They say Lux was arrested unlawfully as he never committed the crimes he’s being charged with.
