Ngcobo murder suspects back in court for bail plea

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The six suspects arrested for the alleged murder of five policemen and a soldier in Ngcobo in the Eastern Cape last month are on Monday expected to appear in the local magistrate’s court again.

Three of the suspects are applying for bail, while the other three have indicated that they don’t want bail.

All the suspects are facing five counts of murder, two of attempted murder and one of unlawful possession of firearms.

During their last appearance more than a week ago, accused number two and three gave incriminating evidence during their bail application.

The second accused, 22 year-old Kwanele Ndlwana told the court that the firearms used to kill the policemen were stolen from the police at Butterworth and Cala.

He told the court that he wanted bail because his family wants to know exactly what happened on that fateful night.

Meanwhile, accused number three, Siphosomzi Tshefu corroborated Ndlwana’s claims about the stolen guns.

He then told the packed court that he was present when the police officers were brutally killed on the night of the 21st of February, saying he’s the one who disarmed one of the deceased officers.
