NFP leaders ‘intimidated’ ahead of KZN by-elections

National Freedom Party (NFP) leader Zanele Magwaza-Msibi says her supporters are being intimidated, ahead of a highly-contested by-election in eThekwini’s ward 39, which encompasses the KwaMashu Hostel.

Magwaza-Msibi rounded up on Monday the NFP’s campaign with a door-to-door drive in the area. The eThekwini’s ward 39 was vacated by an Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) councillor who was charged with murder and illegal possession of a firearm.

The NFP alleges that its posters have been defaced and others have been removed. “That’s intimidation. That’s provocation. I don’t think really that the election will be free and fair here,” says Magwaza-Msibi.

Both the NFP and the IFP have lost members in political violence in the area. More police deployments are expected in the area on Tuesday.
