NFP blames faulty drainage systems for KZN floods

Reading Time: < 1 minute

National Freedom Party(NFP) KwaZulu-Natal chairperson Vikizitha Mlotshwa has criticised the eThekwini Municipality’s drainage systems, saying this contributed to much of the floods seen in the area.

Mlotshwa visited flood victims at Umlazi in Durban on Friday.

He says at this stage the NFP cannot comment about the quality of houses built by the municipality until the investigation is complete.

Mlotshwa also added that the provision of food parcels and blankets to the victims is another way of ensuring that the party looks after the interests of needy people, especially flood victims.

The eThekwini Municipality estimates that the interim cost of damage caused by the recent floods is around R658 million.

Assessment have been done by various municipal departments.
