As the African National Congress’ (ANC) 54th National Conference draws to a close, the party is expected to announce its newly elected National Executive Committee (NEC) later on Wednesday.

Voting for the 80 member strong NEC members took place overnight at the party’s conference in Nasrec Johannesburg.

Following heated debates on the ANC’s voting methodology, the conference resolved that all candidates be listed on one ballot sheet.

This is opposed to voting according to slates compiled by branches.

Delegates selected the members from a list of more than 200 candidates. In the final 80 members the party will have to include 50% of women to ensure gender representation.

Mathole Motshekga, Naledi Pandor, Joel Netshitenze are among senior party leaders who are expected to be part of the NEC.
