Reading Time: < 1 minute

There is fresh hope for destitute and vulnerable children in Durban.  This as a new cottage has been opened at the Lakehaven Child and Youth Care Centre.

The previous home was gutted by fire two years ago and claimed the lives of eight children.

The children were trapped inside and they died trying to escape the blaze.

The tragic event is still etched in the minds of many. But thanks to a benevolent deed by the Sibaya Community Trust there’s new hope as a new cottage was built.

Sibaya Community Trust Vivian Reddy says:”We think it’s very important as business to contribute because business today too often we tend to criticize and ask why there was a fire and raise issues of safety. The reality is that we must get involved and that’s why as a company we’ve gotten involved.”

The project cost R2.5 million. A monument was also built in remembrance of the eight children who lost their lives.
