48 parties are contesting the 2019 national election, 19 more than in 2014.

A political analyst believes that new political parties will benefit through voters who are dissatisfied with their political parties.

Political Analyst Precious Lugayeni has raised concerns about the future of the NFP after its leaders defected to other political parties on the eve of these elections.

He says: “We don’t know what is going to happen to the NFP now that some of the members of the NFP have joined the ANC. Since Mam Magwaza Msibi became ill, little was done to grow the party. In 2016, they did not participate in the local government elections. Maybe people may come and vote for the new parties.”

“No party wins the election because it is voted for by it’s own members. There will be people who are not members of the party but vote for the party. So there are always people who are out there for grabs.”

A total of 48 parties are contesting the 2019 national election, 19 more than in 2014.

KwaZulu-Natal is contested by 31 political parties.
