New Black Leopards coach excited about SA gig

Newly-appointed Black Leopards FC coach, Patrick Aussems, has hailed the South Africa Premier Soccer League as the best in the continent. The 55-year-old Belgian tactician has been appointed as the head coach of the Limpopo outfit on a three-year contract.

Aussems says he is excited to coach in South Africa.

The much-travelled tactician is aware of the task ahead. Lidoda Duvhas as Leopards are fondly known by football fans, are notorious for their impatience with coaches. Last season, the club parted ways with four coaches. Although Aussems has little time, the former coach of Simba SC in Tanzania, is confident he can turn Leopards into a formidable side.

“I know South Africa well because when I was with Simba and when I was with Leopards we came in pre-season here.  I kept  eye on the PSL, it  is the best league in Africa, so its a very good thing for a coach to come and coach a team in South Africa because as I said in terms of infrastructure media coverage quality of the terms is really a good opportunity,” says Aussems.

Meanwhile, the coach will have to dig deeper as he will be missing some key players from last season. Talisman Mwape Musonda is heading to Saudi Arabia, while right back Khuliso Mudau is joining big spenders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mudau says he excited that Leopards allow him to leave, “Is a good thing to leave the team when the team is in the PSL.  I want to thank everyone who supported me and the supporters and the chairman I think is a good thing.”

The crowd pullers have regained their elite status after winning this season’s promotional play-offs.
