The High Court sitting Nelspruit, Mpumalanga has dismissed an application to disband the ANC’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC).

Disgruntled members of the party claimed that the PEC was elected in an illegal conference held in 2015 where bogus delegates participated. Deputy President David Mabuza was elected party’s Chairperson for a third term.

Disgruntled ANC member, William Nkatha, says although they welcome the court’s decision, they are disappointed.

“Let us put it outright that we welcome the court decision, but we are disappointed because the judge didn’t get to the merits of the matter. We will study the judgement and then appeal the court outcome.”

The ANC provincial leadership welcomed the court decision, saying it’s a victory for the ANC ahead of the May elections. A group of ANC members and supporters celebrated outside court in support of the PEC.

ANC Mpumalanga Spokesperson, Sasekani Manzini, says the ruling is a victory for the unity of the ANC.

“We have always been saying let us work together. This is a victory for unity in the ANC. It is now time that we come together and campaign on the ground for victory in these coming elections.”

For now, the disgruntled members have promised to focus on campaigning for their party ahead of the election.
