A permanent Nelson Mandela Legacy Exhibition has been opened at the Cape Town City Hall. The exhibition details Madiba’s legacy, his time in Cape Town during the liberation struggle, various events leading up to his release from Robben Island and the country’s transition to democracy.

There are various pictures and documents of Madiba’s time before, during and after his presidency.

Cape Town Mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis, says the City Hall is the perfect place for such an exhibition because it is just metres away from the balcony overlooking the Grand Parade.

Madiba made his first iconic speech from the balcony in 1990.
