Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality embarks on COVID-19 vaccination drive aimed at taxi industry

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has embarked on an extensive vaccination drive in partnership with the Health Department. The main focus is to encourage taxi operators across the Metro to take the vaccinated.

The Eastern Cape Health Department says the number of males registering to be vaccinated is very low.

The province has been hailed by the Health Minister, Dr Joe Phaahla, for vaccinating the largest percentage of its population.

Deputy mayor of the metro, Luxolo Namette, says the response has been pleasing.

Namette says the campaign will be rolled out to all taxi ranks across the metro.

“The metro is leading in terms of infected numbers of COVID-19. We saw that there is resistance in taxi operators to go to vaccination sites. We know their work is very difficult. They’re always on the road, so today we decided to bring services to them instead of them going to vaccination,” says Namette.
