Nehawu set to march over vacant govt posts

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU) in KwaZulu-Natal says it will march to the provincial legislature to demand that government fill vacant posts.

The union held a media briefing in Durban on Friday where it shared its dissatisfaction about the ongoing labour brokering and the use of consultants by some government departments in the province.

Provincial Secretary Phakama Ndunakazi says outsourcing is one of the mechanisms used to enrich a few. “We believe that outsourcing and labour brokering in the public service is a choice among many mechanisms to enrich the few at the expense of the masses of our people. We do not see the logic in hiring for instance consultants at huge costs where there are employees who are expected to perform those duties to be precise,” he said.
