The National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union, Nehawu march is under way at Mahikeng in North West. Workers from the province and four other provinces including the Northern Cape and Limpopo are marching to the provincial legislature.

They will hand over a memorandum of demands in relation to the crisis currently facing all government departments in the province, including the Office of the Premier.

Nehawu leadership says Wednesday’s march is part of their programme to intensify their campaign. The SACP leadership in the province is also part of the march.

SACP provincial secretary Madoda Sambatha says workers are not against any individual, but against the poor government leadership which fails them to execute their duties.

“Those workers are not on strike against the ANC, they are on strike against government as their employer, so workers have a constitutional right to withdraw their labour, as a reason to discipline the employer. ”
