Nehawu halts protest

National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union members have put their protest on hold, following an agreement with the Gauteng Department of Health.

The union says it is elated that workers with a performance rating of four will receive seven-thousand five hundred rand, and those with a rating of five receive ten-thousand rand before the end of June.

This week union members protested in various hospitals leaving a trail of destruction in Charlotte Maxeke Hospital on Thursday.

“As Unions we asked the Department to just give us more information on the number of those qualifying, so that we can also do our number crunching, because we believe that its a better offer compared to what we have been receiving previously from the Department. So we’ll be working on it – hence the decision to reconvene next Tuesday just to finalise engagements on these bonus discussions,” says the union’s Provincial Secretary Tshepo Mokheranyana.
