The National School of Arts in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, has turned to crowdfund to keep its doors open.
The specialised Art School has been hit with cash flow problems that have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The entertainment industry has been hard hit as well with many artists and musicians unable to perform. For many musicians and actors in South Africa, the journey into the industry began here – paving the way into the entertainment industry.

The school has moulded many talented alumni such as award-winning actor like Charlize Theron and many others.

But the school is now facing financial difficulties, worsened by the global pandemic.

Usually, the school of arts raises funds through performance showcases, but with the lockdown, they’ve had to resort to creative measures.

The Gauteng Education Department says the school will receive additional funding of R3 million along with the current support it receives.
