The National Freedom Party (NFP) launched its 2021 Local Government Elections manifesto in eMabhanoyini, in KwaNongoma, northern KwaZulu-Natal, on Sunday, 10 October 2021.
This is the party’s first manifesto launch without its founder and leader Zanele KaMagwaza Msibi, who passed on in September from cardiac arrest.
The party contested its first elections in 2011, securing two councils.
In 2014, contesting its first general election, the NFP secured six seats in the National Assembly.
In 2016, the party was unable to participate in the municipal polls after missing the deadline to pay the registration fee to the IEC.
NFP Manifesto priorities
The party’s manifesto comprises a 12-point plan on what it can offer if it gains seats after the municipal polls. This plan includes:
1. Education & training
The party promises to improve on status of schools, especially those in rural areas. The party also promises to ensure that graduates are afforded an opportunity for experiential learning in local schools.
2. Service delivery
Under its service delivery mandate, the party will focus on two main pillars which include housing; and infrastructure development and maintenance.
3. Land and agriculture
4. Improving health services
5. Economic development
6. Youth development
7. Safety and security for all South Africans
8. Traditional leadership for rural development
9. Sound governance aimed at rooting out corruption
10. Improving public transport
11. Strategies to foster and improve social development
12. Making sure that women, children & the elderly are safe and protected against violence
