The National Driving School Association of South Africa (NDSASA) has outlined its reasons for calling on government to scrap the online booking system for drivers’ licences.
Some driving school owners say there are a number of technical issues with the online system, which are adversely affecting their clients.
They say they will continue with their protest action at driving licence testing stations around Pretoria – until the manual system is back in place.
The online system was introduced to help cut long queues and eliminate corruption at the centres.
NDSASA’s secretary-general Lazerus Mokoena says, “Let it rather be scrapped because it is not serving its purpose. This system is not efficient, it is not accessible, it is not reliable. It was introduced in 2018 and the reliability of it – the RTMC has always been offline on the system. People are not able to access the system. This system needs one to have a smartphone, for arguments sake. It needs one to also have data.”
