National Assembly passes two Bills dealing with sexual offences

The National Assembly has passed the Domestic Violence Amendment Bill and the Criminal Laws Amendment Bill dealing with sexual offences and other related matters.

The Assembly had its last sitting to consider various reports and Bills today before rising for the constituency period until after the local government elections on the first of November.

The Bills were sent back to the Assembly for final approval after the NCOP made some amendments. The two Bills are expected to intensify GBV prosecutions and convictions.

National Assembly House Chairperson Cedric Frolick presided over the debate on the Bills.

“Are there any objections as moved by the Chief Whip of the majority party that the Criminal Laws (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Bill as amended be passed? Are there any objections? No objections. Agree to. The Bill will be sent to the President for assent. The Bill will be sent to the President for Assent,” says Frolick.
