Afriforum’s private prosecution case against National Assembly Speaker Thandi Modise for alleged animal cruelty is expected to resume on Monday morning in the Potchefstroom Regional Court in the North West.

Afriforum is bringing the private prosecution on behalf of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

In June a warrant of arrest for National Assembly Speaker was put on hold by the Regional Court sitting in Potchefstroom.

The case follows a successful private investigation conducted by the civil rights organisation’s private prosecution unit.

This, allegedly after Modise left her farm unattended, causing the death of over 50 pigs and other animals due to lack of water and food.
