N12 between Bloemhof, Christiana in the North West closed due to petrol spillage

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The N12 between Bloemhof and Christiana in the North West is still closed for traffic. The road that links Johannesburg and Kimberley has been closed since last night after a petrol tanker overturned.

The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management says this has affected traffic flow.

Officials are at the scene diverting traffic to neighbouring towns.

Spokesperson for the department, Boitshoko Moremi, elaborates.

“Law enforcement is diverting traffic to the direction of Hertzogville and back to N12 on both sides of Bloemhof and Christiana. Officials from spillage and hazard are currently clearing the spilled petrol on the road. The Department of Community Safety and Transport Management road users and members of the public to exercise patience and further pleads total co-operation.”

Increase in traffic volumes

There is an increase in traffic N1 between Kranskop Toll plaza and Polokwane.

Traffic authorities have deployed officers on the major routes and set up roadblocks.

SABC News Reporter Lutendo Bobodi is keeping an eye on developments along that route:

Traffic volumes have also increased at the Lebombo port of entry in Komatipoort separating Mpumalanga and Mozambique.

Holidaymakers have already started making their way to Mozambique for the festive season.
